A new spine robot is on the horizon. Called Ecce1, the spine robot is designed to serve as the backbone of quadruped robots. It is based on a mechanical modular model of the human backbone, which incorporates the compliance between vertebrae, and the architecture of the spine. The mechanical modular backbone consists of two setsquares connected by jacks parallel to the diabolo's axis, which minimizes vibration and allows for more precise movements. The first surgeries performed with the new robot are expected to occur in the current month of 2022. The technology is currently being tested at Medtronic's Yale New Haven Hospital, located on the Saint Raphael campus. Upon successful testing, the robot is expected to be used in spine surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital.
